Vajra’s 2011 Barolo Ravera is simply breathtaking. The wine possesses extraordinary clarity and precision, with superb depth to its fruit and stunning overall balance. Ravera is a relatively high-altitude plot and Barolos from this vineyard can often show a prominent nerviness to the tannins, but in 2011 the wine benefitted from the protection the site offers, while still capturing all of the best elements of the hot vintage. A bottle left open was still fresh and vibrant when I revisited it the next day. This is a remarkable effort. Drink 2017- 2022.
2011 Gianni Brunelli le Chiuse di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino
92pts JS, 93pts AG
Reg. Price- $59btl
(only 5btls available)
The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a steady and pleasing effort that shows dark fruit layers packed tight with spice and tobacco. Like many of the wines this vintage, Brunelli’s newest release is immediate and approachable. You can drink it now or wait a few years longer. It tastes just great now with soft fruit layers and generous servings of black cherry and plum. It shows a dense texture with sweet tannins on the close. Drink 2018- 2025.
2011 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino
93pts WA, 94pts JS
Reg. Price- $79btl
*EMAIL DEAL- $65btl (we beat all online prices)
(only 12btls avilable)
The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautifully round and opulent wine that bursts open with vitality and a rush of immediate fruit. It shows lasting intensity with dried cherry, plum, blackberry, spice, leather and tobacco. Generally speaking, the aromas are soft and enduring. This wine offers enormous pleasure upfront and can be consumed within the next ten years. The wine is less adapted for long aging given the approachable tannins and ripe fruit flavors. In its current form, it is a delicious Brunello. Drink 2017- 2025.
