92pt Ribera del Duero Under $20btl- LIMITED
Ribera del Duero’s Pago de los Capellanes has settled shop in Valdeorras to produce a couple of red wines from the Tempranillo grape. They purchased no less than 12 hectares of vineyards in the village Seadur (and good ones according to the locals), and since 2014 they’ll have their own winery. They produced 8,000 bottles in 2014 and 40,000 in 2015. The wines follow the house style of impeccable wines at very affordable prices for Ribera compared to some of their neighbors (Vega Sicilia is right across the way).

2015 Pago de Los Capellanes * Joven Roble Ribera del Duero

Very aromatic, floral and showy, the 2015 Joven Roble is a young (‘joven’) Tempranillo aged in oak (‘roble’) for five months in 300-liter French oak barrels. It is very fruit-driven that showed very good balance and a nice combination of power and elegance, ripeness with restraint, fruit and oak, and the palate has enough tannins to stand up to food.
