Three friends founded Azienda Agricola COS, in 1980: Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano and Giusto Occhipinti. The acronym of their last names is where the name for the winery – COS – comes from.
These guys are just now hitting their stride. The wines are amazing and the word is getting out. With each vintage, COS over delivers and gives you a true sense of Sicilian winemaking. They are becoming the benchmark for all other wines from this up and coming region; the city of Vittoria, in the province of Ragusa.
This is also the area from which my family (my great grandmother’s maiden name was Occhipinti) came from in Sicily so I feel a bit of nostalgia and even a bit of… saudade when I drink these wines. We have and will continue to offer these wines and at great prices.

Bright red hue, sexy aromas of red cherry, red currant, violet, iris and cream soda on the knockout, penetrating nose. Sweet, floral and lively, with captivatingly fleshy bright red and darker fruit flavors complicated by a hint of cinnamon; Finishes lively and bright, displaying lingering floral perfume; the nose alone merits a 93-95-point score. A true Sicilian treasure.
2014 COS * Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico DOCG

This is a tremendous wine and is my favorite bottle in this excellent series. The 2014 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico reveals beautiful integrity and elegance with wild raspberry, blue flower and raw pistachio nut that is a bit sweet and salty at the same time. Buoyant and bright berry fruit takes center stage and although there are some post-fermentation aromas that might stick out to some experts, I embrace them as an integral part of this unique wine’s distinctive personality. The bouquet is almost electric. It has many elements that recall a young Nebbiolo with powdered licorice, cola and dried ginger. I tasted this wine from vat and tasted it again as a finished product. The label has been restyled to boast one of the most distinctive and contemporary designs I have even seen in Italian wine.
