Serralunga in Barolo

2011 G D Vajra * Barolo Ravera
95pts JS
Lowest Online Price- $51.60btl
Our Reg. Price- $49.99btl

Vajra’s 2011 Barolo Ravera is simply breathtaking. The wine possesses extraordinary clarity and precision, with superb depth to its fruit and stunning overall balance. Ravera is a relatively high-altitude plot and Barolos from this vineyard can often show a prominent nerviness to the tannins, but in 2011 the wine benefitted from the protection the site offers, while still capturing all of the best elements of the hot vintage. A bottle left open was still fresh and vibrant when I revisited it the next day. This is a remarkable effort.

2012 Giuseppe Cortese * Barbaresco Rabajà
93pts WA
Lowest Online Price- $40.39btl
Our Reg. Price- $37.99btl

I am deeply impressed by Giuseppe Cortese’s 2012 Barbaresco Rabajà. Son Pier Carlo is in charge of the estate today and has continued his father’s winemaking legacy. This is a delicate and feminine wine that boasts bright and pristine intensity. The bouquet incorporates floral elements of violet and pressed rose. It fuses those subdued characteristics with balanced tones of red fruit, herb, licorice and spice. This Barbaresco sees a traditional aging regime of 22 months in Slovenian oak. This is a wine of enormous beauty.

2013 Luigi Pira * Barolo Serralunga
94pts JS
Lowest Online Price- $48.90btl
Our Reg. Price- $46.99btl

The 2013 Barolo Serralunga is particularly perfumed in this vintage with pressed flowers and rose petal backed by sweet spice, cherry cola and moist pipe tobacco. The wine takes a while to open in the glass before it reveals its inherent complexity and beauty. Anisette, balsam herb and a touch of dried rosemary complete the portrait. A beautiful wine from a great classic vintage.
