The 2013 Barolo Serralunga is particularly perfumed in this vintage with pressed flowers and rose petal backed by sweet spice, cherry cola and moist pipe tobacco. The wine takes a while to open in the glass before it reveals its inherent complexity and beauty. Anisette, balsam herb and a touch of dried rosemary complete the portrait. A beautiful wine from a great classic vintage.

2013 Elvio Cogno * Barolo Ravera
97pts JS, 95pts RP
$82.50btl or
EMAIL DEAL- SIX PACK IN OWC- $414/6pk ($69btl)

This is a stunningly precise expression of Nebbiolo that shows exceptionally well in this vintage. The 2013 Barolo Ravera benefits from slightly higher altitudes that help to develop the singular linearity and focus of the wine. If many other celebrated crus, such as Cannubi and Brunate, exist at 250 to 350 meters, Ravera starts at 380 meters. That higher positioning means that fruit is harvested as much as ten days after the other sites. This wine offers a savory vein with iron and pencil shaving. But it also fills out generously over the palate with dark fruit and spice. This Barolo promise a long aging future.

2013 Bartolo Mascarello * Barolo DOCG
96pts RP, 96pts WS
Online lowest price- $248btl
WPW EMAIL DEAL- $175btl or $840 per six pack ($140btl)

Bartolo Mascarello’s 2013 Barolo is made with the estate’s traditional blend of vineyard sites. This includes the San Lorenzo cru that will go offline starting with the 2015 vintage. This is a classic and traditional interpretation of Nebbiolo with an absolutely pristine and polished flavor profile. The bouquet opens to pressed violet, cassis, licorice, wild sage and cola. There is an elegant mineral imprint as well with rusty iron and iodine. This edition is evermore solid and centered compared to the warmer 2012 vintage. It will also require extra bottle aging in order to bring out its natural, but nuanced intensity.
