Affordable Burgundy

Affordable Burgundy? Is there really such a thing? If you know where to look even this is possible. Below are two superb red Burgundy that punch way above their price point. And now with a little over 5 years of age they are drinking at their peak. Don’t miss out on these Burgundy lovers. All wines in stock and we have the best prices by a mile!

*2012 Santenay Les Hates
Vincent & Sophie Morey
$25.99btl/$280.69 per case

I first met Bernard Morey back in the late 1980’s when I was living & working in NYC. His wines always impressed me and now that his two sons , Vincent & Thomas have taken over and split the Domaine, the wines still impress. Vincent married Sophie, also from a Burgundy Wine Family and their combined Domaine is now 20 hectares. This little wine over delivers. Only 375 cases produced all from Sophie Morey’s family vineyards. 2/3 from 75 year old vines and 1/3 from 25 year old vines. Silky in texture with easy, sweet and well-integrated fruit. Floral and mineral with some coffee/mocha and vanilla oak on the finish

*2011 Savigny Les Beaune
Les Serpentieres 1er Cru
Vincent Girardin
$29.99btl/$323.89 per case

The village of Savigny-les-Beaune is located in the Côte de Beaune, a few kilometres North of the village of Beaune. The wine area of Savigny-les-Beaune is one of the oldest of Burgundy and a lot of parcels belonged to the Dukes of Burgundy and to the Abbeys of Citeaux and Maizières. “Les Serpentières” is located at the opposite of the Marconnets’ plot. The soil is chalky with stones and gravels a bit of clay. Grapes are harvested by hand and sorted out twice, then destemmed. Afterwards, grapes are put in stainless-steal tank for the alcoholic fermentation only with pumping over. After the alcoholic fermentation, a vertical pressing is done followed by a settling of the juice. The wine is put in French oak barrels of 228 liters (15% of new barrels). The malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels and the wine is aged 14 months, then bottled without fining or filtration following the moon calendar. A wine with plenty of fruit with well integrated structure and nice earthy notes that tell you this is Savigny. This full round wine is very long and charming.
