Yes I know. It’s not noon yet. Well I ‘m still on Sorrento Time so it’s cocktail hour. And my current “companion” is a glass of Bourgogne Blanc from Puligny Producer Extraordinaire Alain Chavy . This little charmer just begs you take another sip. Want to drink Puligny Montrachet but scared off by the high prices? This “Baby Puligny” is your ticket to ride.

The Chavy family resides in the village of Puligny-Montrachet for over 200 years and the name is famous for consistent production of fine, elegant Burgundy.Alain and his brother worked with their father Gerard in the family domaine until his retirement in 1994. The brothers continue to work together until 2003, when they decided to part ways. Alain owns 6.5 hectares of splendid vineyards. As he moved to a new house, a brand new underground cellar was constructed – which is one of the very few in the entire commune.
Since the establishment of Domaine Alain Chavy, the quality of the wines is ever improving. Alain makes restrained style of Puligny with ripe (but never over ripe) fruit balanced by crisp acidity, which are designed to long aging.

The beautiful color is followed by a nose of butterscotch and lemon curd. In the mouth it is full and fleshy and then the racy acidity & steely core you get from Puligny kicks in. The finish is perfectly clean and balanced and lingers quite long. The total package for a fraction of the price. Chavy only owns 1 hectare (2.2 acres) of Bourgogne Vineyards so production is tiny. This is the bargain in the Chavy Lineup as many of his other wines cost a decimal point more!
