If you love White Burgundy, and who doesn’t, you must take advantage of this incredible deal. Christophe Cordier has become a star in the Maconnais Region, crafting wines thgat rival the more famous villages of the Cote de Beaune. Robert Parker says, “Cordier fashions Pouilly-Fuissés of other-worldly quality that are often far better than Côte de Beaune grand crus yet at a fraction of the price’ ‘Christophe Cordier is now regarded as one of the best winemakers not only in Maconnais but in the entire Burgundy region, his recent vintages have been highly praised in the wine press but he still retains very simple techniques and continues to improve year after year; he is a grower to watch’.

Christophe Cordier is a third-generation vigneron in southern Burgundy’s Mâconnais. His father, Roger Cordier, established the domaine in 1968 in the village of Fuissé with only five hectares of vineyards. After finishing viticultural school, Christophe joined him in 1987, determined to create great wines from the Mâconnais. In an area known for simple, over-produced wines he has been one of the rare pioneers to study the soils and farm, vinify and bottle the best terroirs of the region. To accomplish this, Christophe explains, “I did exactly the opposite of what I learned in school. I learned that to make great wines, I would need to take great risks.” Influenced by the precision and detail-oriented work modeled by premier estates such as Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, he set out to change the Mâconnais one parcel at a time, choosing to farm with uncompromising standards-the likes of which the region has rarely seen.

This wine spends 12 months in new foudres on the lees. No fining or filtration and gravity fed bottling. There is only a trace of the exotic to the exceptionally fresh and cool aromas where the elevated sense of freshness extends to the energetic and well-delineated middle weight flavors that culminate in a citrus-inflected and chiseled finale. This isn’t super complex but I like the almost Chablis-like character.
